– John O’Connor.

“It weird what you remember sometimes, potato wedges and cajun chicken. Erasumus karaoke night, wheat bear, smurf juice, my god rag week…. wonder if anybody has managed to beat my time for a yard of ale. It’s only been 9 years but it feels like a couple of lifetimes ago, or more like a memory of a dream rather than someplace real at this point.”
– John Kearney.
“Christmas Daze! What a laugh The “how wants to be a millionaire” game in the corner”
– Rory Corbett.
“The only way for me to describe the Stables is by calling it a family institution.
My cousin, Oliver, attended University of Limerick and graduated in 1991. He returned back to Donegal after school.
I first stepped foot in UL in spring of 2009. I had never been to Ireland before (originally from Chicago myself), had never met my relations here, and had no idea that my cousin had gone to the same school. After a couple of weeks into the term, my cousin Ollie rang me up to see how I was getting on in my new school. Of course, I had fallen in love with the place. UL was a dream; Stables caramel squares by day, and Stables pints by night. Although I was a regular to Stables in every sense of the word, I didn’t want to let on to this cousin that I did not know that I was going out every night. So, I kept my mouth shut. At the end of our conversation, Ollie said, “Alright, study hard, and stay out of Stables, for God’s sake!!” I almost dropped the phone out of sheer surprise. HOW DID HE KNOW? He knew all too well!
Stables hosted my first Bulmers, my first Guinness, and my God, those caramel squares. From the St. Paddy’s Day madness to the RAG week craic, I truly love this place, and miss it fiercely since I have come home to Chicago. However, I have a WEEK 8 Stables event poster framed in my room, so I try to make it feel like I never left
Cheers, Stables! Happy 25th!!”

“I have so many memories from that bar that really is the heart of UL. Lots of time spent there during the day drinking too many teas in the courtyard and constantly having people joining and leaving the table as lecture timetables allowed. Then at night there was everything from the mythical “quiet one” to RAG Week madness. I have two stories if that is ok. The first one is from RAG Week a good few years back. There was a hypnotist on stage in the courtyard, I ended up going up to see what it was all about. To cut a long story short, I ended up explaining to a big crowd of people how to navigate the My Little Pony Website. The organisers of the bungee jumping got such a kick out of that that I ended up getting a free bungee jump straight afterwards which was unreal!
The second story is the night the UL Vikings won the Shamrock Bowl in 2007. The bar was quiet as it was a Sunday night but we spent the night celebrating, singing and drinking. It was a great night and the staff, including yourself, were genuinely great on the night.” – Liam Ryan.
From our 21st Birthday Party
In 2012, The Stables Club celebrates its 25th birthday. In those 25 years, we’ve seen over 150,000 students pass through the University, we’ve served over 10,000,000 pints and we’ve made enough curry sauce to fill several olympic size swimming pools.
But we wouldn’t have made it this far without you.
And now we’re asking you for one more favour. We’re looking for pictures taken in the Stables over the last 25 years. We’re looking for your stories about the Stables, we’re looking for what The Stables meant to you when you were in college.
Stories, pictures, memories can be sent to mystory@stablesclub.com, posted on our Facebook page, or you can leave a comment below. You can also post photos to us, which we will scan and return to you. Our postal address is:
